On the front cover of the book, The Comic Book Makers (c. 2003)
by Joe Simon with Jim Simon we read the following,
"The Young Men in the Golden Age of Comic Books
were as bizarre as the characters they created."
Bizarre? Could they mean because of something like
some of the artists at Harvey Publications
smoking the expensive Cigar butts that were left
by Joe Dempsey the ex-heavyweight boxing champion?
He would chain-smoke while watching the H.P. artists
working. (p. 72)
As we read on the back cover, this book is "Lavishly Illustrated."
It includes art work from Marvel, DC, Fawcett, EC, Harvey, MLJ,
etc, publications.
